Talkeetna & Roadhouse Events for the Week December 30, 2019 – January 5, 2020

Back in November of 1999 around 70 community members gathered for a three day conference to focus on what we’d like to see Talkeetna look like in 2020. Hahah…. we’re HERE! My notebook from the conference has a handful of notes and papers related to the formation and plans for a recycling committee, as that was what I personally identified as a project on which to focus; it was/is really important to me. Happily, this community has made that happen…. good job us! So many other things have changed over the last decade from the addition of Sunshine Transit to the disappearance of our beach and riverfront at the end of Main Street. If there was ever a time to pull out our planning documents – Talkeetna Comprehensive Plan, Riverfront Management Plan, Tourism Plan, the various S.P.U.D.s (Special Land Use District plans), re-examine our Vision 2020 – now would be the time. Living in a small community isn’t all just live music, potlucks, pick-up basketball and art openings. How lucky we are to have those! Yet it’s really about making a community function and be a safe, healthy and livable place to spend a life. #ilovetalkeetna
